Introduction

In this internet site the achievement of Leonardo da Vinci researched by Dr. Soichi Mukaigawa is shown.
Dr. Mukaigawa’s investigation has thrown new light upon the fact that Leonardo composed his art utilizing geometry.

Leonardo da Vinci is known as an artist who painted “Mona Lisa” in Louvre Museum, which is exaggeratedly the most popular art all through the world and also was not only a genius of Renaissance but also a man of great gift all through the history of humankind. Other people who were called geniuses were dominant in their own field but Leonardo’s field covered art, mathematics, architect, civil engineering and weapon and was called a genius of all-round. Referring to Newton and Einstein in physics, he might be a genius who was born once a 500 years or a century.

Many persons wrote books of biography, research and reviews of Leonardo. However the reports to be presented here focus on the fact how he thought mathematics and painted utilizing it. Of course many people wrote about that but all of his achievements were not made clear yet about thought and idea of mathematics mainly of golden section and its application to perspective from his codex.

It can be said that Leonardo realized his composition of art by Theory of Symmetry which had been succeeded by Vitruvian architecture through his interpretation. Theory of Symmetry is the base of beauty of ancient Greek architecture and sculpture.
Naturally a question is posed what kind of mathematical law was applied when we feel beauty of art. Here the aim is to present how Leonardo, the genius, searched mathematics to realize and enhance the beauty of art.

Dr. Mukaigawa reported in 1991 that Leonardo based golden section on the composition of art (in Japanese). It was before the connection between Leonardo and golden section formed a topic sensationally when “Da Vinci Code” was published in 2003 and later filmed. It was also before the report of Klaus Irle and Klaus Schröer about the relation between Vitruvian Man and golden section in 1998.

Here Dr. Mukaigawa’s report is presented and it will explain the secret of the master painter to introduce you, visitors, to the state where you can appreciate and enjoy master’s arts greatly.
